Singer / Songwriters - Male Vocals

Roger sings soul music. His full name is Thando Roger Mhlontlo and therefore uses his middle name as his stage name, Roger.
He was born in Zwide Township 28 years ago. He was raised by his mother and great grandparents and although they applied strict discipline throughout his life, they also have him the freedom to express himself in any way possible. The lessons that he learned from his upbringing include being humble and appreciating life.
His love of music started early in life. In Koyana Street, Zwide, he listened to groups such as Joy4Gents and the popular jazz band, Blaze. His first attempt at being a musician started during his high school days when he formed a group with his friends.
Towards the end of 1998, Roger joined the Potter’s House Christian church and became the worship team leader. This is when he started becoming more serious about his music as a career. He sang in the church band and later formed a gospel group called the Soldiers. During this time, Roger travelled around South Africa performing gospel music.
In 2006, Roger decided to further his passion and began singing soul music. He had a choice of singing his music in English as most of his peers were doing, but he chose to deliver his music in his home language of isiXhosa. He feels that next to French, isiXhosa is one of the most romantic languages.
Roger’s 12 track debut album is now complete and was released to the public in 2008. He has performed around the country promoting the album and has shared a stage with international artist, Kios from London.
Roger has made appearances on Jam Alley, Afro Café and Weekend Live. He has also performed at the MACUFE and at the Cape Town Jazz festival.
His songs have been play listed on Umhlobo Wenene and Tru FM.
