Auditions Are Being Held For Performers In Children’s Theatre Life Skill Productions on Thursday, 20 September 2012

Requirements:
  • Must be aged 18 years +
  • Must be hard-working, dedicated and have the ability to act - Puppetry is practice and personality.
  • All interns with any skills or ideas of value will be acknowledged, such as composing songs, story-telling, etc...
  • The internship involves shadowing performers, training in puppet manipulation, backstage assistance and understudies for performers – dependent on skill and ability.
  • During internship, the intern will have the opportunity to be cast for productions (school & fantasy) for which he/she will be paid as well as smaller birthday party shows.
  • Should the intern perform for a production on account of being an understudy, he/she will be paid. Payment of performers is dependent on their role in the production. 
  • Must be fluent in English with either Xhosa / Afrikaans
  • Audition material will be given at orientation

Port Elizabeth is set for a treat when one of its upcoming stars, Zanele Lobishe, launches her debut album, “Intombi” at the Daku Hall on August 4, 2012.

This is a must see show with the album entitled “Intombi” speaking directly to women of South Africa - challenging young girls to shift their focus away from earthly temptations to heavenly teachings in order to restore self-respect. Lobishe, who was born and raised in Kwazakhele, promises nothing but the best from her 10 track album.

VuDu, one of Port Elizabeth’s upcoming jazz bands has taken some time out to give back to their community by partnering with local NGO, Masifunde Learner Development in a musical project they have named Siyacula, Siyafunda, Siyakhula. The project incorporates music education as well as fundraising for the building of the organisations Lavel’ilanga Education Center in Walmer Township.  The project will run in four week cycles, incorporating music workshops for selected members of Masifunde’s choir and drama group. The first cycle will run from 1-31 August 2012 launched by a charity concert on 28 July at Coco de Mer. The event will include a performance by the VuDu Jazz band and supporting acts, Ntsika, Umle and various performers from Walmer Township.

A young artist from Mthatha has been motivated to give back to her community by organising a poetry event called “Hold Your Thoughts” on Saturday, June 30.  

Durban based Ludwekazi Ndlzai says that the poetry festival is aimed at promoting poetry from all spheres in the Transkei region including up-and-coming and established poets. She described the event as a platform to showcase the existing skills among local poets while encouraging poets to maintain their talent as an instrument of communication, as well as literacy.
