Award-winning journalist and poet Nosipho Kota was born in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in 1974. She started writing poetry in 1998 while studying in King William's Town. In 2001, she was named the first Eastern Cape Vodacom Journalist of the Year and subsequent to that she won again in 2002 and 2003 in the features and special categories respectively. 
She has free-lanced for local magazines including Oprah magazine, Destiny, True Love, Drum and others. She has performed her poetry in the National Arts Festival's Wordfest in Grahamstown and in the Cape Town Book in 2010. In August 2010 she launched her first poetry anthology, entitled Bare Soul, with the assistance of Centre for the Book and Swii Arts Amendment which is headed by Monde Ngonyama. 
Her poetry has also been published in literary publications such as Timbila, Kotaz, Insight, Writing from Here, Parking Space and Nobody ever said Aids.
She is a mother of three kids, two daughters and one son, Khwezi, Maya and Ayamaah.
