A young artist from Mthatha has been motivated to give back to her community by organising a poetry event called “Hold Your Thoughts” on Saturday, June 30.

Durban based Ludwekazi Ndlzai says that the poetry festival is aimed at promoting poetry from all spheres in the Transkei region including up-and-coming and established poets. She described the event as a platform to showcase the existing skills among local poets while encouraging poets to maintain their talent as an instrument of communication, as well as literacy.

Ndlazi, together with fellow poets Thandile Qambe and Sisonke Papu were born in Mthatha, but left to pursue their careers in Durban and Port Elizabeth. However, they share similar sentiments on the initiative as a potential step to putting their birthplace on the map.

Currently, the trio have founded a non-profit organisation called Vivid Thoughts which has received funding from the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation together with local municipality in order to coordinate the entire event.

Ndlazi co-founder of Vivid Thoughts, expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders involved including the public who have welcome the initiative with enthusiasm.

All those who would like to satisfy their hunger for live poetry are invited to attend “Hold Your Thoughts” at the Mthatha Town Hall at 14h00 on Saturday, June 30. Tickets are R20 at the door.
