NuBox Jazz Band will be performing live on the Fringe at this year’s Grahamstown National Arts Festival.NuBox Jazz Band was formed in 2008 by Tozamile Kuze, who was founder of a now defunct group called “WAVES” in 2001.

Tozamile’s dream was realized when the band “NuBox” was established in October 2008.

The band is made up of six artists: Siyabonga Somthunzi (Bass Guitarist), Mayibongwe Gwam (First Keyboard), Toni Lungile (Second Keyboard), Sibusiso Dara (the Drums) and Zuzeka Somthunzi, the Lead Singer.

The music ranges from Jazz, Jazz Fusion, and R&B. As well as playing cover versions, the band also has its own compositions.

“The reason for forming this band is mainly to combat crime, as well as trying to lessen unemployment in our communities,” says founder, Tozamile Kuze. “Our goal is mainly to enrich people in our communities through music, so that they can become interested in the art and also stay off the streets. We want to showcase our talent in the Eastern Cape and abroad. Port Elizabeth has wonderful creative musicians and artists that can put P.E on the map.”

The band will be performing at The Urban Lounge:

  • 1st July 2pm and 6pm
  • 2nd July at 3pm
  • 5th July at 3pm
  • 6th July 9pm
