One of PE’s best kept secrets explodes onto the scene at Uptown Theatres ...

Pianist and vocalist, Ulagh Williams together with the TwoTone Show Band were recently back at Uptown Theatres with their sensational show, Crooners and Company. The show received a very positive response, with listeners begging for more!
Although the venue was not fully booked every night, Williams was pleased with the loyal client base they have built up through previous performances as well as the warm reception they received from their fans during the show. “Songs such as, 'I’ve got the world on a string’,  ‘me and Mrs Jones’,  ‘Beyond the sea,’ and some of the Diana Krall jazz numbers really brought the house down,” says Williams.

Theatre Group makes Eastern Cape Proud in the UK

Two members of the “Amagenge” theatre group have been performing in and around the North East of England for the last two weeks to showcase South African theatre before the Fifa World Cup in June.
Amagenge are part of a team of 27 different artists that are touring the North East of England conducting dance, storytelling, singing and theatre workshops with schools and the local community. The tour was organized by Swallows Partnership also known as Isiseko Senkonjane.

MACO – helping to uncover the wealth of creativity in Motherwell

The arts as a creative industry needs constant nurturing and people dedicated to supporting and promoting this potentially lucrative industry. Support for cultural programmes is a necessary resource for enriching the heritage of the country.
The Motherwell Arts and Culture Organisation (MACO) which operates under the Business Unit of the Department of Arts and Culture has taken a strong initiative in ensuring that arts and entertainment in the Eastern Cape are taken to a higher level.

DEFBOYZ is an Eastern Cape based hip-hop activism duo made up of Xolile 'X' Madinda and Mxolisi 'Biz' Bodla. Their signature sound is hardhitting lyricism over hard beats informed by their baptism into the genre in the early 1990s. For Defboyz hip-hop is a channel for expressing self and to comment on society.

Born in Despatch in the Eastern Cape, Chezane Kirton is a talented young artist with a real passion for music. She writes and performs a wide range of music genres from country to blues, jazz and Afrikaans and has performed with some of the country’s top artists including Bobby Angel, Thys Die Bosveldklong and Freddie Nest.

New Afroteens



The New Afroteens is an Afropop and Afrojazz band with the average age of 16. They have recorded a dynamic cd which will be launched mid year and features Hugh Masekela on two songs and Puff Johnson on one. The cd was produced by Lawrence Matshiza (of the original Afroteens in the 1970s). Matshiza has produced the likes of Judith Sephuma, Ringo Madlingozi and many more.
