Kurt Johnson, known to his peers as Kiddo Black, was born in Port Elizabeth and has grown to become one of the city’s top MC’s and anti-crime advocates.
Kiddo was drawn into Hip Hop and MC’ing as an escape from the temptations of gang culture which has sadly become part of life in his Gelvandale neighbourhood. At first he was only a spectator of street ciphers, analysing freestyle MC’s, but after many hours of practice, he has become one of Port Elizabeth’s top MC’s.
Together with his older brother, Kiddo laid down his first track in 2008 at True Sight Studios. The song lead to an album which Kiddo dedicated to his fellow MC and best friend,  Lusane Anderson who was caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting and was fatally wounded.
Kiddo named the album, “Slim Dom”, explaining that those involved in gangsterism are actually clever people but are wasting their lives by getting involved in such an activity.
Since the release of his album, Kiddo has taken part in numerous anti-drug and anti-violence campaigns. He has also sewn into the community by sponsoring schools and victims of gang violence.
